Alonzo B. Walling

Alonzo Bailey Walling was born in Glenville, Schenectady, NY on April 11, 1845. When he was young the family moved to Utica where his father W.B. starting working the carriage making industry at the corner of John and Catherine Streets. Alonzo was educated by a private tutor, at select schools, Utica Public schools, Whitestown Seminary, and graduated from Utica Academy. He went into the family business which became known as "Walling's Carriage Works". Mr. Walling married Bessie Cowley on Sept 12, 1866. They had two daughter Jessie and Leila. He was a member of the Volunteer Fire Department for many years. First in Washington Engine No 7. and later as foreman of Active No 3. Mr. Walling was also a member of Utica Lodge, No 47, F.& A. M.; and Utica Chamber of Commerce from its organization. Alonzo Bailey Walling served three years as supervisor for the Tenth Ward as a Republican. In 1878 he was a member of the Committee o...
