Edgar B. Odell
Edgar B. Odell was born in Junlius, Seneca, New York in the year 1857. His family moved to Phelps, Ontario, New York. He graduated from Cazenovia Seminary in 1876. After graduating he lived in Colorado for two and a half years. After Colorado he worked for his father in Phelps. Sometime later he moved to Utica.
When Edgar Odell moved to Utica he became a bookkeeper at Roberts and Hoag. He later became partner in the business. When Mr. Hoag retired it became John A. Roberts and Co. Mr. Odell retired from the business in 1905. After his retirement he spent nearly a year traveling abroad.
After traveling abroad Mr. Odell became associated with the J.B. Wells and Son Dry Goods Firm. He became secretary and treasurer of the firm. During his time there the whole block was taken over and remodeled making it the largest store in lower Genesee Street. Mr Odell retired from there in 1916.
Mr. Odell was also director and secretary of the Continental Tool Company in Frankfort for seven years.
In 1898, he was one of the organizers of the Utica Home Telephone Co. He was President from its organization and served as director from the start. Mr. Odell was also one of the organizers of the Citizens Trust Co in 1903. He served on its Board of Directors. In 1914, he was elected Second Vice President.
Mr. Odell was a member of the Automobile Club of Utica from its start. In 1913 he was elected Vice President. The following year he was elected President.
In October 1909 was appointed by Mayor Wheeler as a member of the School Board.
He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Homeopathic Hospital. He was on the building committee when they built a new Hospital.
Mr. Odell was member of the Fort Schuyler Club; Rome Club; and Yahnundasis Golf Club.
Mr. Odell was married to Charlotte J. White. They a son Frederick and daughter Louise.
Edgar Odell passed away on Jun 9, 1923 and is buried at Forest Hill Cemetery.
