Watson T. Dunmore
Watson T. Dunmore was born Mar 28, 1845 in Rush, Susquehanna County, PA to Matthew and Sarah James Dunmore. He received his BA and Masters from Wesleyan University. Was principal of Bradford (VT) High School 1871-73. He then read for the law in the office of Vermont Governor Roswell Farnham. He was admitted to the Vermont bar in 1874. For a short while Mr. Dunmore was superintendent of schools at Hornellsville, NY. In 1879, he received his LL.B. degree from Hamilton College. He practiced law in Utica first later with Smith M. Lindsay with whom he was associated with until 1883, when he became a member of the firm of Searle, Dunmore, and Willis the firm changed names a few times.
Watson T. Dunmore was elected as special Oneida County Judge in 1886. In 1892, he was elected Oneida County Judge. He served until he retired in 1904.
Watson T. Dunmore married Minnie E. Goodier on July 9, 1878. They had six children. After Minnie's death he married Cora Wheeler.
Watson T. Dunmore was involved in an official capacity with many large corporations, was director of the Utica Knitting Company; Vice President and director of the Citizens Trust Company; director of the Clayville Knitting Company; and President and director of the Utica Warehouse Company.
Watson T. Dunmore was President, trustee, and Attorney for the Homestead Aid Association of Utica; Highland Park Association; and the Utica Homeopathic Hospital. Was President, Treasurer and a member of the Executive Committee of the New York State League of Building and Loan Association.
In 1898, Watson T. Dunmore was one of the Incorporators of the Mount McGregor Memorial Association. They were in charge of caring for the cottage that General Grant died at.
Watson T. Dunmore was a member of the following: Yahnundasis Golf Club (was President); Fort Schuyler Club; Utica Republican Club; Pine Lake Club; City Club; and Oneida Historical Society (today's Oneida County History Center). He was affiliated with the Odd Fellows; Knights of Pythias; and Masonic fraternities.
in 1915, Watson T. Dunmore was a member of the New York State Constitutional Convention.
Watson T. Dunmore passed away on July 9, 1929 and is buried in Plot 33 Lot 3194 of Forest Hill Cemetery in Utica.
